WOODBURY, N.J. -

The New Jersey teen who confessed to killing 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale learned his fate on Thursday morning.

Justin Robinson, 16, was sentenced in Gloucester County court to 17 years in jail for killing the young girl last year.

Robinson previously admitted to luring Autumn to his home and strangling her.  Her body was found a few days later in a recycling bin next door to Robinson's home.

FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reported that Robinson pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and must serve 85 percent of the sentence but will get credit for time served. He'll be sent to a youth correctional facility, must submit a DNA sample, and will have five years of parole upon release.

When the judge told Robinson he had a right to appeal within 45 days, the teen said he didn't understand the right to appeal. If he does appeal, the deal is off and there would be a trial.

Protestors outside court were calling for a stronger sentence.

Esposito reported that Autumn's family lawyers said no amount of time will bring back her lost life. The lawyers added that there's closure in the legal system and then there's emotional closure -- now the legal closure has taken place.

Esposito will have more in live reports on the FOX 29 News at 5 and 6.

Meanwhile, Robinson's older brother, Dante, was also charged in Autumn's death, but his case is still pending in juvenile court.
