JACKSON, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Andrew Maberry, age 19, allegedly known as the I-55 bank bandit who hit 10 banks in five states, turned himself in and was charged with one count of bank robbery said the FBI office in St. Louis.

Maberry, of O'Fallon, Ill., surrendered to the St. Louis FBI office less than 24 hours after a publicity campaign was launched seeking the public's assistance in capturing the "I-55 Bandit."

The teen was charged with one count of bank robbery in connection with a July 2 robbery at Commerce Bank in Arnold, Mo.  Mayberry was charged via a federal complaint and was arraigned Wednesday afternoon at the federal courthouse.

"We want to thank the news media and digital billboard companies for providing coverage on the I-55 Bandit," said Dean C. Bryant, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI St. Louis Division. "We have no doubt Maberry's surrender was a direct result of the extensive media attention. We also appreciate the dozens of solid tips we were provided by the public. The FBI has long relied on the public to help identify and capture criminals."

Since May 6, 2013, the "I-55 Bandit" is believed to have robbed 10 banks and attempted to rob two others in five states: Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia, and Tennessee. The "I-55 Bandit" moniker comes from the fact that all four banks robbed in the St. Louis region were along Interstate 55.

The FBI continues the investigation to determine if Maberry is linked to other bank robberies.

Maberry reportedly veered off I-55 and onto I-40 and attempted to rob three banks in Jackson, Tenn., but was only successful at one. The spree took place between Aug. 12-14.

Jackson residents like Eyan Wuchina thought the bandit has a plan.

"I think he might be the kind of person who just has the look that he stays under the radar," Wuchina said. "Probably he is really good at that, something he's been practicing for years. He has a craft going, and people just need to catch up to him."

Maberry allegedly attempted to rob the First State Bank branch in Jackson on Aug. 12. Two days later he robbed the Bank of Jackson. After his reported second heist in Jackson, a suspect fitting his description tried to rob the Clayton Bank branch but didn't succeed.
