SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

It was barely the middle of September on Tuesday, but temperatures felt like it was the middle of summer. Fox 2's Weather Authority Jessica Starr hit the streets to see how metro-Detroiters keep cool in the unexpected 90+ degree temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties from 10 a.m. Tuesday - 10:00 p.m. Wednesday.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The prolonged period of hot weather will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids; stay in an air-conditioned room; stay out of the sun; and check on relatives and neighbors, children and pets.

The high record for September 10th was set back in 1983, with the temperature reaching 94. The official high temperature for this day in 2013 only reached 93, so the record was not broken.
