Funeral planned for Douglasville soldier

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

A fallen soldier was brought home to Douglas County on Sunday. Staff Sgt. Joshua J. Bowden was killed in Afghanistan on August 31.

Bowden joined the Army in 2005 and was on his second deployment to the region when he encountered small-arms fire while on dismounted patrol in Ghazni.

His body arrive at Charlie Brown Airport in Fulton County Sunday morning. An honor guard and members of the Patriot Guard accompanied his casket to the Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville. Citizens lined the procession route to pay their respects.

Funeral services are planned for Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church located at 5811 Central Church Road in Douglasville. There will be a short procession from the funeral home to the church prior to the funeral.

Bowden's body will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the EOD Warrior Foundation by going to eodwarriorfoundation.org.
