SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is naming a new chief of staff to replace Jack Lavin, who is resigning.

Quinn said Friday that Ryan Croke will be his top aide. Croke has been deputy chief of staff since November 2009.

Lavin has been Quinn's chief of staff since late 2010. Quinn's office says he is leaving for a job in the private sector.

Lavin led an agency under Quinn's predecessor -- ousted ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Lavin has known Quinn for 20 years and become chief operating officer when Quinn took office from Blagojevich.

Croke worked on public safety, economic development and government modernization projects.

The Wheeling native has a master's degree in communications and serves as co-chairman of the Employment for People with Disabilities Task Force.
