Enrollment drops at Arkansas State in Jonesboro

Posted: Updated:
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -

Enrollment at Arkansas State University's campus in Jonesboro has fallen slightly from a year ago.

The school announced Wednesday that 13,538 students enrolled for the fall semester. That's 358 fewer students than in the fall of 2012.

The Jonesboro Sun reports (http://is.gd/1YKZ6M) that administrators attribute the decline, in part, to higher admission standards.

The school says the enrollment numbers are still unofficial and that it is working on a more detailed look at the composition of the student body.

ASU wouldn't say how many freshmen enrolled or whether there were more or less than a year ago.

Vice Chancellor Rick Stripling says the enrollment total indicates ASU has a stable student population.
