87-year-old living between charred, crumbling abandoned homes

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Bill Lemanski has lived in the same house in Detroit for 47 years, but over the past couple years he has had quite the change of scenery. He's living in the middle of two burned-up abandoned homes.

Lemanski's daughter, Diane Elliot, says two years ago, the first house caught on fire. Since then parts of the home have began crumbling and falling into his house and yard. Then earlier this year, the house on the other side of her father's was set on fire. That property is now a large illegal dumping site.

Elliot says she's tried calling the city several times, and the abandoned homes did make it to the city's demolition list, but now there's nothing anyone can do.

Bill Nolling, a spokesperson for the Emergency Manager's office, tells Asher Detroit's task of tearing down 10,000 vacant structures is now on hold because there's no money. The job now in the hands of the state.

In the meantime, Elliot fears for her father's safety.
