MILLINGTON, Tenn. (FOX13) -

For the fourth time this school year, a weapon was found at a Shelby County School. Millington Police responded to Lucy Elementary School after a third-grader brought a knife to school.

There were no reported injuries.

According to a letter from SCS, a student alerted the staff at Lucy Elementary about the knife. Police officers responded to the school around 10:15 a.m. A police report said the third grader brought a pocket knife to school and threatened to stab another student.

The victim tipped off elementary staff and after police looked into it more, they determined the child with the knife never intended to harm anyone and was a victim of bullying. The student brought the knife to school to feel safe.

The student who brought the knife to school told police he brought it "to cut mustard packets at lunch today." The child pulled the knife out during the Pledge of Allegiance and said to a classmate, "if you tell anyone I will stab you in the throat."

No charges were filed, but the student has been disciplined according to the SCS board policy.

Parent Andrew Williams told FOX13 News he thinks parents need to do a better job of checking what their children are taking to school in their backpacks and in their pockets.

"We have to go through that every morning with my kids," he said. "We tell them what they can and can't do. Sometimes they try to sneak stuff inside their backpacks so I have to go through it and make sure they've got it all out."

This is the second consecutive week a knife has been found at an SCS elementary school. On Aug. 28 a 7-year-old Ross Elementary student threatened another student at the South Memphis school with a knife. The 7-year-old was arrested by Memphis Police.

There also have been two incidents where guns have been found on campuses within the district this school year. Superintendent Dorsey Hopson told FOX13 News on Aug. 13 hand wand metal detectors would be  used to screen elementary school students throughout the county district.

There is no word on if the wands were being used at Lucy Elementary.
