Man arrested for driving murdered teacher's car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Memphis Police arrested Carl Smith on Saturday, who was at the time driving Bronsha Lewis' car.

Ms. Lewis was found beaten to death Friday morning, Aug. 29, inside the University Cabana apartment complex on Oakmont.

The 30-year-old Smith was charged with theft of property after he was seen driving Lewis' Chevrolet Impala in the 1500 block of Broadway in West Memphis, Ark. He was taken into custody later at a medical facility on Getwell in Memphis.

A candlelight vigil was held at Ms. Lewis' apartment complex Monday evening. Family members say she was a special needs teacher at Idlewild and Brewster elementary schools.

Smith is expected to appear in Shelby County General Sessions Court in Downtown Memphis Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
