Memphis police are using surveillance footage from a convenience store to try and find a man they say raped a 19-year-old in June.
Police say the sexual assault happened on Sunday, June 30 in the 3000 block of Providence. On the scene, police met the victim who told them she was walking on Winchester near Graceland when a man driving a black 2000 Ford Taurus pulled up and asked if she needed a ride.
The man introduced himself as "Dee" to the victim. The victim got into the car and he drove her home.
The man returned to the victim's home and picked her up for a date. During the date, the suspect drove to a nearby convenience store and was captured on surveillance video.
Police say the man drove the victim to a vacant apartment on Providence.
The suspect asked the victim to have sex with him and she refused. Police say she told the man she felt uncomfortable, got out of the car and began walking away. That's when the suspect grabbed her from behind, pulled her into a breezeway and raped her.
The suspect is described as being between 20-30 years of age, 5-foot-6 inches in height and weighing 160 pounds. He also has a scar below his left eye and what appears to be burn marks on his left hand.
