PHOENIX -

Governor Jan Brewer returned to Arizona this week from India, where she led a delegation on a trade mission. The governor promoted business and tourism in our state.

Today, she spoke with us by phone about her trip.

"I met with the chief minister there in Bangalore and with his cabinet and had a very good discussion with him. I met with the minister of agriculture and the minister of mining and we were just invited and welcomed by most of his cabinet members. we also met with the chamber of commerce over there and also the commission on Indian industries of which I had met with in Washington dc before I left.

"So very laser-focused on what Arizona was all about and they knew a lot about us and they certainly were impressed with our business, friendly and very competitive atmosphere we've been able to have here in Arizona, and our location as far as coming here for investments because of the closeness to California and to Silicon Valley and to the ports.

"They were very interested in our mining as well as aerospace and renewable energy. They were very much interested in all three of those and we have entered into some MOUs that are being drawn up at this point in time.

"They were also very interested in tourism, you know, which is great for us and we're hoping that we can work with them to try to get travel packages here.

"There had been people that had been to Arizona, they haven't seen all of Arizona but they had been to the Grand Canyon and some of them had actually been here in Phoenix for a few days and enjoyed it and thought it was an amazing city and how well planned it was," said Brewer.

The governor's office says exports to India from Arizona recently went up by nearly 80 percent.
