Cobb County helping residents cut costs on their meds

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Free drug discount cards often help residents cut prescription costs. And, these days there are still quite a few people can't afford to pay for their meds.

To help, Cobb County launched a new prescription drug discount program called The Coast2Coast Rx card at the end of 2012. Many people are now taking advantage of the savings.

The Coast2Coast Rx card is a free prescription discount card that allows all county residents -- regardless of income, age or health status -- to participate in the program and save on their medications.

It provides discounts on more than 60,000 brand name and generic drugs, with savings up to 75 percent.

The card is not insurance; it's just a discount. It covers an entire family and cardholders save on both brand name and generic drugs.

In 2012, cardholders saved a national average of 60 percent on the cost of their prescription drugs.

The card can also be used for savings on dental care, vision care, hearing care, lab work, imaging, diabetic supplies and even veterinary services. For example, Humboldt County in Florida announced recently that Coast2Coast Rx saved its residents more than $1 million on the cost of their prescription drugs in the three years it's been available.

Cards are available at libraries, county health facilities and may be printed at coast2coastrx.com
