Memphis Police charged 13-year-old Cypress Middle School student with Possession of a Weapon on School Property after an unloaded gun was found in his backpack just before noon Tuesday.
A student tipped off school security in Memphis telling them that another student had a gun in his backpack.
There were no reported injuries.
This is the second reported gun that was found in a student's backpack in the past five days.
After the gun was discovered in the 13-year-old student's backpack, the security officer confiscated it and called Memphis Police shortly after 11:20 a.m. to investigate the discovery.
The gun was unloaded. Cypress Middle Principal Gina Nicholson told parents another student tipped them about the handgun. Principal Nicholson and staff praised the student for speaking up.
Cypress Middle School is located in the 2100 block of Howell Avenue in Memphis.
