Flash flood watch issued for northwestern Arizona

Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Northwestern Arizona will be under a flood watch from late Tuesday morning until late Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service says the watch area includes Lake Havasu, the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Prescott, Williams, Sedona and the Verde Valley.

Moisture continued to stream across part of the state a day after a dust storm and thunderstorm blew through the Phoenix metropolitan area late Monday as heavy rain fell on many parts of western Arizona.

Winds from an approaching storm system pushed a hazy brown cloud over most of the Phoenix area early Monday evening.

The storm downed power lines and trees in Tempe.

Arizona's monsoon season begins in mid-June and runs through Sept. 30 and has produced massive dust storms called "haboobs" in recent years.
