Mystery: worker found dead at Conn. nuclear plant

Posted: Updated:

WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) - Workplace safety officials are investigating the death of an electrician at the Millstone nuclear power complex in Waterford.

Millstone spokesman Ken Holt told The Day that the woman was found dead in a non-nuclear area of the plant by two other workers at about 1 p.m. Thursday. Her name hasn't been released.

Holt says the woman worked for a contractor that was hired to do maintenance at the plant, and she had been working on transformers.

Holt says the incident doesn't appear to be work-related, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

Millstone officials also notified local police and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. An NRC spokesman says the agency is not investigating because the incident didn't occur in a nuclear area of the plant.
