PHOENIX -

More than 200 people are being told by federal investigators that their identities may have been stolen and used by Danny's Family Car Washes in that alleged immigration fraud scheme.

Managers at Danny's Family Car Wash face serious charges. This federal indictment says managers knowingly stole the identities of former employees -- and used them to hire undocumented workers. ICE officials say they will be sending letters to about 200 potential victims in the case.

We talked to one former worker at Danny's who explains exactly how she obtained work there.

Federal agents raided Danny's Car Wash chain after court documents accused the chain of orchestrating an identity fraud scheme -- employing dozens of undocumented workers.

"In the first years, we worked with our own names. But about a year ago after issues with E-Verify, things changed," says Hortencia Jaimes [translated from Spanish].

Jaimes says the company fired workers who couldn't pass the E-Verify system -- only to rehire them later.

"The managers gave the employment number. It was a number that belonged to people who used to work at Danny's. They would tell you, you can keep working we got you a new number."

The federal indictment against the company states much of the same, specifically accusing the chain of rehiring fired employees by "allowing them to assume ‘new' identities."

But the indictment doesn't name the company's owner Danny Hendon. Still, Jaimes says he knew all about what was going on.

"Danny knew," she says.

After federal agents raided the chain, taking into custody many of the people who allegedly used fake identities, the majority, including Jaimes -- were later released.

Officials say they are targeting the employer, not the employees. Still, for several hours, Jaimes didn't know what would happen next.

"I was scared and thinking about what am I going to do about my kids."

Workers say they weren't given any person's full identity. But the worker says managers provided them with employment identification numbers, which then allowed them to pass the E-Verify system.

Other former workers told FOX 10 the company overworked them, didn't give them many breaks, and many employees haven't been able to cash their checks since the raid.
