GLENDALE, Ariz. -

We've all heard about the separation of church and state, but the Mayor of Glendale is asking the city council to start every meeting with a prayer.

"I definitely support it.  God bless America," said Laurie.

We spoke to some people outside Glendale City Hall Wednesday afternoon.  Most liked the idea of starting every council meeting with a prayer.

"I would strongly recommend it. I pray all the time.  There's nothing wrong with praying," said William.

Laurie adds, "I believe in prayer.  Prayer is the answer to everything.  I believe God is the answer to America to solve our problems."

Usually, Glendale City Council meetings begin with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

But now Mayor Jerry Weiers is trying to get the council's blessing for an opening prayer.  It comes with conditions: No one is required to take part, whoever does the praying will do it for free and there's a recommended limit of two minutes on all prayers.

Not everyone we talked to thinks it's a good idea.

"I'm Catholic and I believe in prayer, but I think some things need to be separate," said Darcey.  "I don't think that has a place in our city council meeting.  I think it should be the business of the city council.. what they are doing."

The city council will vote on the issue September 10th.
