GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Police say a 23-month-old child died from a bullet fired by his grandfather.  Authorities said that the gunshot was fired during an argument on Tuesday night in Gwinnett County.

According to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the shooting took place at 5238 Stafford Drive just around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said that Luis Efrain Torres got into argument with the child's father, Rochell McCoy, outside the house.

According to police, a gunshot fired by Torres struck the child, DeAndre Vega, who was on the driveway.

The child had been brought to the house by his parents, authorities said.

Torres remained at the scene and was taken into custody. Smith said that Torres was attempting to shoot McCoy and the child was struck by crossfire.

Torres is charged with murder, failure to appear and aggravated assault. A preliminary court hearing is scheduled for later this month.
