That's Italian! Douglasville retiree cooks up second slice

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

A lot of us have wondered what we will do once we retire. One Douglasville woman faced that question and has turned her answer into a tasty and exciting second chapter of her life.

You might now know her name yet – Liza (pronounced ‘Leeza') Barney – but, pretty soon you'll definitely recognize her lasagna.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken made a bee line to her kitchen in Douglasville where she was cooking up her award-winning recipe.

And, some food for thought:  Liza won a nationwide online Italian recipe contest put on by Maggiano's restaurant. Participants submitted their favorite Italian recipes, with Liza's Spinach & Artichoke Lasagna Rolls with Sausage Bolognese Sauce winning first place.

It will be showcased throughout the nation on Maggiano's upcoming fall/winter menu. You can get her recipe here -- http://blog.maggianos.com/category/best-italian-chef/

And, Liza previously appeared on TV One's "My Momma Throws Down" as well as Lifetime Movie Network's "Supermarket Superstars."  She and I will be live in her kitchen -- showing off her Italian recipe and discussing her interesting story of Corrections Officer to Cook.
