PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix police lieutenant has been released from jail on his own recognizance after being accused of assaulting his 17-year-old son.

Mesa police say Dalin Scott Webb was arrested Monday and accused of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

Phoenix police say the department's professional standards bureau will conduct an internal investigation while Mesa police handle the criminal case.

The 41-year-old Webb has been with Phoenix police since 1996.

A probable cause statement released Tuesday didn't say what led to Webb allegedly assaulting his son at the family's home in Mesa.

Police say the teen's mother witnessed the alleged assault and yelled at Webb to "stop it."

A status conference for Webb is scheduled for Aug. 26 with a preliminary hearing on Sept. 9.

Webb doesn't have a lawyer yet.
