Arizonans expected to travel more this Labor Day weekend

Updated:
PHOENIX -

Labor Day is two weekends away. Many people consider Labor Day to be the last big vacation weekend of the summer.

Arizonans are taking advantage of the holiday and are expected to travel more this year, according to AAA.

An estimated 678,000 Arizonans will travel over Labor Day weekend, AAA found. That's an increase of 5.8 percent from last year.

If you're hitting the road, you're one of 566,000 Arizonans who plan to drive to their labor day destination.

Drivers increased by 6 percent from 2012.

Those flying to their destinations will be among more than 57,000 Arizonans who plan to take a plane to their labor day destination.

Flyers increased too, by 4.2 percent from last summer.

We're not only taking a break, we're helping the economy!

Traveling Arizonans spend an average of $670 on Labor Day getaways.

Gas prices in-state are at an average of $3.44, but AAA says prices could increase depending on how hurricane season pans out and the level of unrest in the middle east.
