GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Michigan State Police confirm that parts of a blue AMC Gremlin were among a number of car parts unearthed by construction crews at a housing site in Genesee County.

Lt. Michael Shaw tells FOX 2 troopers received an anonymous tip about the parts discovered on a lot in the Grand Reserve housing community, specifically a lot near Del Webb Blvd. and Prairie Dunes Dr.

Crews said the car parts were found buried deep in the ground. Click the video player to hear from FOX 2's Amy Lange.

Members of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab were on the scene Tuesday afternoon as the investigation continues.

In the minds of many southeast Michigan residents, a blue AMC Gremlin recounts back to the case of the Oakland County Child Killer. Mark D. Stebbins, 12, of Ferndale; Jill Robinson, 12, of Royal Oak; Kristine Mihelich, 10, of Berkley; and Timothy King, 11, of Birmingham were victims in the unsolved murders of the 1970s.

For many years, a blue AMC Gremlin is one of the vehicles police searched for in connection with the case.

Police would not immediately make a connection between Tuesday's discovery and the decades old murder investigation.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard released the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

"As news breaks about the Oakland County Child Killer Task Force investigating the excavation of what appears to be a blue AMC Gremlin, Sheriff Bouchard said, "All of the current Task Force members who worked this case from the beginning, including me as a rookie patrol officer, have a deep desire to bring this case to a close for the victims and their families.

The State Police and all of our local partners as well as the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, remain committed to that goal. We will continue to actively investigate and pursue any potential leads. The Task Forces recognizes there have been a lot of high hopes dashed when leads have not come to fruition in the past.

If anything further develops, the Task Force certainly will make the public aware."
