DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

It's been a full day of battling flames at different locations for fire crews from the Stone Mountain area and that's before the sun even came up Tuesday morning.

Two fires broke out at homes right across the street from each other on Central Drive in DeKalb County, FOX 5 Atlanta's Tacoma Perry reports. About 3 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a home in the 4900 block of Central Drive, quickly knocking it down.

Then, just minutes later, the call to a second fire at the Wynview Apartments complex. Flames had spread to several apartments and residents were fleeing outside into the dark, pre-sunrise night for safety.

Perry spoke to one witness who said he saw the first fire at the house, as well as over at the Wynview apartment complex.

"When the fires came, [the fire department] got here immediately. And, they took out the fire. After that, they saw this one over in Wynview and they immediately came out to this one and took that one out," he said.

Firefighters were still inspecting the fire site and stamping out remaining hotspots at of 6 a.m.
