Memphis police have arrested 46-year-old Jennifer Cotton after leaving her adult disabled daughter in a hot car, an affidavit of complaint shows.
Cotton was charged with adult abuse, exploitation and neglect after her boyfriend told police she was trying to buy drugs in northeast Memphis and left her 20-year-old daughter in her car.
When police arrived they saw her daughter, who has cerebral palsy, sweating in the backseat of the car. The car's engine was not turned on and the windows were rolled up.
The daughter was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, where doctors said she was severely malnourished.
Cotton was booked into the Shelby County jail, where she was held in lieu of $5,000 bond with a court appearance on Monday.
