A 16-year-old East High School boy has been charged with aggravated rape after an assault against an 18-year-old female student. The incident took place Wednesday on campus, the Shelby County Sheriff said.
Shelby County Sheriff's detectives were called to the high school in regards to a forcible rape and they were advised the female teenage victim was taken to The MED after complaining of abdominal pain. She identified a 16-year-old boy responsible for allegedly raping her.
The assault took place shortly after school had let out for the day.
After questioning, the suspect was transported to the Criminal Justice Center (201 Poplar Ave.) and was charged with rape per the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.
The suspected juvenile was taken into custody and was taken to the county juvenile detention center. He was expected to appear in juvenile court Thursday afternoon.
The county sheriff will not say if the alleged sexual assault happened inside the school building. They're only saying it happened "on campus."
