Attempted Murder Among Accused Cop-Shooter's 24 Charges

PHILADELPHIA -

Charges have been officially filed against the accused gunman in the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer this week, court documents show.

The suspect, 31-year-old Eric Torres is being charged with 24 counts. attempted murder. Those include criminal attempt murder, aggravated assault, carrying an unlicensed firearm, possessing another prohibited gun, receiving stolen property, possessing drugs as well as paraphernalia and others.

Officer Edward Davies was shot under his bullet-resistant vest Tuesday inside a Feltonville mini-mart. He remains in critical condition at Temple University Hospital, and has undergone at least two surgeries so far.

Police say Torres has a violent criminal history and may also be a suspect in the June murder of a construction worker, although he has not been charged in that case.

Sources tell FOX 29 that the .45-caliber Glock with which Davies was shot was stolen from another officer's home during a burglary last year. And another was found in Torres' residence, which was along Fourth Street and not far from Tuesday's shooting scene.

Meanwhile, a blood drive is being held Thursday and Friday at the Red Cross to support the wounded officer.

Officials say Davies may not have survived at all if not for a fellow officer who quickly raced him to the hospital seconds after the shooting.
