Ex-Ga. attorney pleads guilty to wire fraud

ATLANTA (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a former Atlanta attorney has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $300,000 from a trust fund that was established for more than 50 of his clients.

U.S. Attorney's officials said Wednesday that 52-year-old Thomas Dickson represented commercial real estate investors who lost their life savings when the company that owned the properties went bankrupt in November 2008. Officials say Dickson encouraged the investors to transfer rent and other income to his firm's trust account.

Prosecutors say Dickson funneled the money to a business checking account in Texas that he and his wife had control over. The firm launched an internal investigation in January 2012 which led to Dickson's termination and disbarment.

He's charged with wire fraud and will be sentenced on Oct. 30.
