A special primary and general election are now planned to find a replacement for the longest serving member of the Tennessee House.
Representative Lois Marie DeBerry (May 5, 1945 - July 28, 2013) was the first African American female Speaker Pro Tempore of the Tennessee House. DeBerry died last month after a long battle with cancer at the age of 68.
A special primary election will be held Oct. 8 and the special general election is set for Nov. 21
The winner of the November election will serve the remainder of Representative DeBerry's current term.
