Mother: Son killed in Turner Field fall lifelong Braves fan

Posted: Updated:

Twenty-nine-year-old Ronald Lee Homer, of Conyers, died after falling about 65 feet at Turner Field, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed Tuesday morning.

Homer was a lifelong Braves fan, his mother told The Associated Press. She said her son spoke with her one the phone shortly before this tragic fall.

Homer was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he later died, according to authorities. Witnesses told FOX 5's George Franco that Homer fell from the outside edge of an upper-level platform in the 400-level of the stadium.

Foul play has been ruled out, according to Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.

"The fall appears accidental," Officer Chafee said. "It appears the male fell approximately 65 feet."

FOX 5 Atlanta's Morse Diggs reports there are a number of fans claiming to have seen something, from Homer simply having fallen to him hopping over the rail and thinking it was a short distance to a landing below.

Another that was posted by a national newspaper claims that Homer was being chased by security. The commander of the Atlanta Police Homicide Division says that is not what happened.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has spoken out, confirming there would be full investigation into the circumstances leading to Homer's fall.

"There is an investigation being conducted to determine what happened, as we would always do. And, we're going to have some results reasonably soon," the mayor said.

The Atlanta Braves were hosting the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.
