Search For Missing Tuber Continues In Bucks Co.

Posted: Updated:

It yesterday happened in Pipersville, Bucks County. The 30-year-old Washington DC man was tubing down the river with friends when he fell into the rough water. Tinicum Township police have identified the missing man as 30-year-old Anthony Del Prete.

The river's not helping at all with the rescue. It's risen since yesterday to about 10 to 11 feet in some areas. But that's not the only issue hindering their recovery effort.

Crews motored up and down the Delaware River for what's become a search and recovery effort for tuber Anthony Del Prete. The quick current and zero visibility from the muddy water made it difficult for divers.

"Under normal conditions, we'd have many divers in water and do saturation dive where we'd dive the whole area piece by piece and cordoned it off," says a rescuer.

Eight boats, two with sonar, scoured the river on Sunday, looking for the missing 30-year-old Virginia man. He was tubing with a group of about ten friends when he went under, late Saturday afternoon.

Dan Breen heard the call for help from one of his employees patrolling the river.

"Three people flagged him over. He went to see what kind of stress they were in and one of the guys said, 'My buddy went under and didn't come out," recalled Breen. "So he radios me and I call 911 and all hell broke loose."

Rescue crews focused their efforts around a buoy where Del Prete's friends say he went under. It's only about 100 yards from where he and his friends were about to get out of the water on the banks of Kingwood Township, New Jersey in Hunterdon county. Police say he was not wearing a life jacket.

"Everyone is a little alarmed and concerned. There's someone who's missing. It's frightening," says Laura Krein of Upper Black Eddy.

No word on when authorities plan to call off the search for the night. They don't believe there's any foul play. They're considering this a missing persons case.
