MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

During International Elvis Week this year, August 12-15, The New Daisy Theatre will be rocking with Elvis-related shows including Doc Franklin's Images of the King Tribute Artist Contest and Showcases, and Ronnie McDowell with The Florida Boys.

On Images of The King:
For the first time ever, the Images of the King Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and Showcase will take place on Beale Street. The historic New Daisy Theatre will be transformed into a classic Las Vegas-style showroom, hosting the contest and showcases; other parts of the event will be held in locations around Memphis' downtown.

The cornerstone of the event, the Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will be expanded to include five divisions.  Competitors will choose to compete against other ETAs portraying Elvis in the 50s/60s or 70s, in both professional and non-professional classes.  A youth division is being included for competitors under the age of 12.  Guaranteed prize money of more than $13,000 will be awarded to the twenty-three finalists, with the Images Grand Champion receiving $5,000.

Brief history: In 1987, Elvis' veterinarian Edward "Doc" Franklin made the modern Elvis Tribute Artist (ETA) community a reality when he established the event known as "Images of the King."  The event, which includes an internationally recognized ETA contest and showcases, has crowned twenty-six world champions who have gone on to be recognized as the preeminent ETAs performing today. Doc Franklin was also the former owner of the New Daisy Theatre; he trained Mike Glenn, who has run the New Daisy since December 1984.

After Doc's death in 2006, Bobbie and Michael Hoover (the 1988 Images of the King Champion) took over the event and have run it successfully until recently passing the torch to Jason Sherry of Sherry Management.

On Ronnie McDowell:
Ronnie McDowell has been the voice of Elvis Presley in every major movie and television series since Elvis' passing.

Following the death of Elvis Presley in 1977, Ronnie McDowell came out of nowhere to dazzle the world with his heartfelt and self-penned tribute song "The King Is Gone." The record took off immediately and to date has sold more than 5 million copies.

McDowell proved that he wasn't just a one-trick pony by producing an impressive discography with dozens of Top 100 singles through the years.

While Elvis Presley has played a big part in Ronnie McDowell's musical career over the years, McDowell continues to entertain audiences with his own blend of romantic intimacy and country excitement! He looks great, he sounds great, and judging from the longtime adoration of his fans, he seems to grow better with each passing year!

On The Florida Boys:

The Florida Boys has recorded some 100 albums and attained a following of devoted listeners, including the late Elvis Presley. In addition, this legendary group appeared on the first gospel quartet concert ever held in New York's Carnegie Hall, which is universally recognized as the zenith of one's career.

When the original Florida Boys (Les Beasley, Glen Allred and Derrell Stewart) retired in 2007 after 60 years, these legends passed the mantel to the present group to continue the Florida Boys legacy in front of an audience of 10,000 at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY.
