Falcons fans face tighter security rules

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A new NFL season is bringing new rules for Atlanta Falcons' fans. The new security guidelines ruffled some female fans filing into the Georgia Dome for the team's first preseason game on Thursday.

The National Football League's new bag policy bans, among other things, backpacks, purse, diaper bags, coolers and seat cushions.

A small clutch or clear bags are allowed.

Ticket holders are allowed to check large bags for approved plastic totes.

NFL officials say the clear bags make security checks at the Dome's doors more efficient and effective, and get people in the building faster. That still didn't sit well with some fans.

"There are a lot of female things and toiletries that I just would rather not have other people see," said one woman.

League officials say medical exceptions can be made.

Outside the Dome, Atlanta Police Department's mounted unit patrolled surrounding parking lots while GBI agents checked in and under cars.
