Scoreboard compares quality of Detroit schools

A report card of Detroit schools shows just one in four get a decent grade.

A coalition called Excellent Schools Detroit released their annual list of the city's top school. It puts private, public and charter schools all together. The coalition is made up of philanthropists and local community leaders.

Of the 204 schools on the list, Excellent Schools Detroit recommends parents choose 51 of them. These schools received a grade of C+ or higher and are considered 'promising' and 'on the right track,' according to the group.

According to the scorecard, the top 10 schools in Detroit are:

Davison Elementary-Middle School
Detroit Merit Charter Academy
Renaissance High School
Cass Technical High School
Thirkell Elementary School
Communication and Media Arts HS
University Preparatory Academy Elementary Mark Murray
Bates Academy
Chandler Park Academy - High School
Davis Aerospace High School
