Tenn. prison officer arrested for contraband

Posted: Updated:
Henning, TN -

Cpl. Lonnie Rogers was arrested for bringing forty cell phones and chargers along with twenty-two ounces of marijuana and tobacco into the prison, according to Dorinda Carter Communications Director for the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

This is all part of an ongoing mission to operate safe and secure prisons says Carter.

"Whether it is one cell phone or 40 and whether it is a visitor or an employee, our agency will not tolerate the introduction of contraband into our prisons," Commissioner Derrick Schofield said.  "This case demonstrates our commitment to zero tolerance of illegal contraband that threatens the security of our prisons."

Rogers was transported to the Lauderdale County Jail. The case will be turned over to District Attorney Mike Dunavant for prosecution.
