In the face of misconduct charges, Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Kay Robilio has decided to step down from the bench.
At the end of May, the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct filed formal charges against the longtime judge for alleged misconduct in a domestic relations case she handled in 2012.
Judge Robilio will officially step down Sunday, Sept. 1.

In the filing made earlier in May in Nashville, Timothy Discenza, the Disciplinary Counsel for the Board of Judicial Conduct, alleged Judge Robilio improperly investigated a post-divorce child custody case, by making a personal visit to the home of the father.
The filing asserts this act fell outside of Robilio's judicial purview. Judges are to hear arguments from the two sides, not investigate independently according to the Code of Judicial Conduct.
The complaint against Judge Robilio, who could have faced the Board of Judicial Conduct as a result of the filing, has been withdrawn and dismissed.
