Rescue crews have pulled a woman's body from the Schuylkill River after her car veered off of Kelly Drive and plunged into the Schuylkill River late Sunday night.

It happened around 11 p.m. near Boathouse Row.

Police say there were two people inside the car. A male passenger was able to get out safely.

The woman's body was recovered a few hours later. We're told she's 21-years-old from Darby, but her identity is not yet being released.

It's still unclear what caused the driver to lose control. Investigators are trying to determine if weather played a factor.

According to police, the 31-year-old male from Philadelphia who survived claims a car coming at them northbound and crossed the center double yellow line, and the driver swerved to avoid it, causing he vehicle to end up in the river.

Police are still investigating the dead crash.
