Ga. power line installation may slow I-95 traffic

Posted: Updated:

MIDWAY, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Department of Transportation says motorists traveling Interstate 95 south of Savannah can expect some unusual sites by the roadside over the next two weeks.

The DOT says crews working for the Georgia Transmission Corporation will begin installing utility poles and power lines parallel to the interstate starting Saturday. Helicopters will be used to get the poles in place.

The work is scheduled to during the next two weeks in Bryan and Liberty counties near the Georgia coast.

The DOT says signs advising motorists of the utility work will be placed on I-95 and extra law enforcement will be dispatched to the area. Stephan Thomas, a DOT district utilities engineers, says drivers should focus on the road and not let themselves be distracted by the work.
