Flooding follows heavy rain in parts of Flagstaff

Posted: Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A concrete retaining wall's failure sent floodwater through a mobile home park after monsoon rain drenched parts of the Flagstaff area.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the wall's failure late Sunday night sent water through yards and damaged some homes.

Firefighters carried a wheelchair-bound man through floodwaters to safety because it was thought his mobile Summit Fire home's foundation wasn't stable.

The National Weather Service recorded 1.38 inches in 15 minutes and 2.44 inches in an hour.

Summit Fire Department Chief Don Howard said it was the most intense flooding in the area seen since a 2010 wildfire scarred the Schultz Pass area.

Several roads remain closed because of flood damage, and the Forest Service had to bring in heavy equipment so strander campers could get out.
