WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say she left her dog alone in a hot car with the windows rolled up and it died.

Woodbridge police say Tiffany July-Lindo left her 14-month-old Yorkie-Chihuahua mix unattended in a car Wednesday afternoon in 90-degree heat.

Police say the 24-year-old Waterbury woman had gone to work inside a local business. When she returned to the car about an hour later, she reportedly found the dog dead.

WVIT reports July-Lindo is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court next Friday.
