MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A powerful thunderstorm blew through the Mid-South Thursday afternoon as rush hour was underway. Over 1 inch of rain caused several flash flooding warnings.

This storm brought the evening commute to a standstill.

The blinding deluge slowed traffic around the region. Cars and trucks were swamped around Memphis

Diana Martinez of Cordova, Tenn., said a tree in her front yard was struck by lightning, she says it broke windows in her Cordova home.

Street flooding was the biggest issue around town as several roads were impassable. Several lanes on Sycamore View Road near I-40 were flooded with inches of water. But most drivers were plowing through, the rain adding some headaches to the Thursday night commute.

There was a good amount of lighting with this storm. One woman was struck in Shelby Farms Park. She was brought to Baptist Hospital of Memphis by rescue crews.

Hours after the storm, MLGW is still working to restore power. There are outages around the service area.
