Two people were inside a small experimental plane when it crashed Wednesday afternoon in the front yard of a Collierville home.
One person was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-serious injuries. The second person in the aircraft was not taken to a hospital and is reportedly okay.
The small aircraft made an emergency landing just after 4 p.m. in the 5100 block of Reynolds Road. The location of the crash is not too far away from the Olive Branch, Miss., Metro Airport. The aircraft came to a rest near a pond and foot bridge in the front yard.
The experimental aircraft, registered to a man in Marion, Ark. and built in 1996 according to FAA records, departed from Colonial Air Park, a private airfield in Collierville.
The pilot immediately had a mechanical problem, heard a pop and looked to make an emergency landing in the large front yard. On its descent, the plane's wing clipped a tree on its emergency approach.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Collierville Police say the FAA will begin an investigation into the crash on Thursday.
