The traffic accident took place at around 9:25 p.m. Sunday evening on South Perkins Street near Mallory Road in South Memphis.
The victim, later identified as 15-year-old Tyler Johnson, was taken to The MED in extremely critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
According to an initial investigation by police, Tyler was walking westbound to eastbound across South Perkins when he was struck by the front of the unknown hit-and-run vehicle. He was struck as he entered the continuous turn lane on the roadway, police said.
