Post-monsoon cleanup underway

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

A number of homeowners suffered extensive damage and are now picking up the pieces following a strong monsoon storm that descended on the southeast valley Monday.

SkyFOX found a new house construction site at 24th St and Pecos in Chandler that was decimated by the monsoon storms. The storm tore the wood beams apart -- it looks like a tornado came through.

We're also uprooted and downed trees in the Ahwatukee and Chandler areas. And the football scoreboard of Desert Vista High School was knocked down. Residents told us it's one of the worst storms -- if not the worst -- they've ever seen.

Mesa was also hit hard. Mobile homes in the area of Sossaman and Main received a lot of damage to metal awnings and rooftops.

High winds helped topple a semi near I-10 and Wild Horse Pass. The driver was not seriously hurt, but it did cause a big backup.

Earlier Monday, Wickenburg saw steady rain for several hours. Kingman was hit by a flash flood in the Dean Peak Fire area, leaving behind a lot of water and mud. Cleanup is underway there as well.
