AVONDALE, Ariz. -

An Avondale man who worked for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has been accused of assaulting a woman with a souvenir baseball bat and pointing a handgun at her in front of her children.

William Glen Edmond was ordered held without bond Monday during an appearance in Maricopa County Superior Court.

The 29-year-old Edmond was arrested last Thursday at his apartment.

The woman told police Edmond allegedly used a wrestling hold to pin her to a bed on June 30 and used a small wooden bat during the assault.

During an argument later, she says Edmond allegedly pointed a gun at her.

Authorities say Edmond is being held on suspicion of 2 counts of felony sexual assault and two counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to court documents, the victim disclosed additional assaults since 2005. Edmond told detectives he had "anger issues" and was "sorry."

Court officials say a public defender will be assigned to Edmond.

Edmond was hired by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in 2005 and most recently worked in the custody support division.

"The sheriff's office will separate employment with Edmond shortly," stated Deputy Joaquin Enriquez, an MCSO spokesman. He noted that Edmond's wages have been suspended.
