Child killed in boating accident on Sylvan Lake

KEEGO HARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

Authorities say a power boat collided with three children being pulled in a tube on a lake, killing one of them and seriously injuring two others.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon on Sylvan Lake in the Oakland County community of Keego Harbor.

Authorities say a man was pulling his three children on a jet ski when another boat hit their inner tube.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says both the father and the operator of the boat stopped and started to render aid. All three children were taken to the shoreline and CPR was started. Sadly, an 11-year-old died at the hospital. The two girls, ages 6 and 10, are at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak listed in critical condition.

The family is from West Bloomfield Township. The boater involved is from Sylvan Lake. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

"What was planned as a fun day turned so tragic," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "As we continue to investigate what caused this tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

The sheriff's department is still investigating.
