Victims sought in Ga fraud, theft case

Posted: Updated:

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Federal authorities are trying to identify more victims of an Augusta man convicted of stealing from sick people and grieving families.

A judge sentenced Bryant K. Evans Webb to 15 years in prison, but he delayed ordering restitution for victims to allow more time for locating people who might have been hurt.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that records and testimony show Webb left a trail of fraud and theft before being convicted.

Records show Webb defrauded his boss and the families of deceased clients of more than $215,000 while working at Peoples' Funeral Home.

Webb was arrested over that theft and released on bond. He then began working at Mother and Daughter Personal Care Home, where officials say he stole more than $33,000 from disabled nursing home residents.
