The Church of God in Christ won't be marching home to Memphis to host their annual convention for at least the next three years.
COGIC has extended its current commitment of holding its annual convocation in St. Louis through 2016. CoGIC moved its annual convention to St. Louis in 2010 because of Memphis' inadequate hotel and convention space.
While the Mid-South won't be benefiting from COGIC's mega faith event, Mayor A C Wharton said the city is still trying to woo the church's other smaller gatherings, such as its women's conference.
"That's still underway," he said Thursday. "Keep in mind the convocation is not only significant event COGIC has and we're still working fervently on getting the women's convention and a number of other conventions here."
COGIC, headquartered in Memphis, has 6 million members worldwide.
