Gary Boisseau has been let go as the police chief in the town of Walls, Miss., after not being reappointed by the town's Board of Aldermen.
Officer Reggie Harris was appointed to interim police chief by the aldermen.
Boisseau was police chief when Memphian James Irby disappeared during a May 4 traffic stop in Walls. Irby's family complained that Boisseau and the Walls Police Department had done little searching to find the 55-year-old.
The family has also accused the department of being involved in the man's disappearance.
