PHOENIX -

Phoenix Police have arrested a woman for child abuse after she was found passed out on the ground with her baby in a stroller next to her.

Tuesday morning about 10 a.m., a concerned citizen in the area of I-17 and Camelback flagged down the officer and expressed concern for the baby. The officer spoke to the mother, 32-year-old Sara Beth Meikle, who was obviously intoxicated.

Meikle allegedly had trouble speaking and admitted she had a drinking problem. The officer tried to take her home, but the woman could not give him the right address.

Due to the heat and humidity, and Meikle's intoxication, the officer felt it was unsafe to leave the child in her care.

Meikle was taken into custody for child abuse. The child was turned over to her grandmother.
