You don't normally think of the Fourth of July and charity going hand in hand but the West Tennessee Veterans Home is hoping you will give their cause a second look.
The group is still very much in the planning stages looking to raise $23 million to start construction on a 144-bed Shelby County-centered home for retired military veterans. The closest military veterans home is two hours away.
Holly Swagger of the Tennessee Veterans Home, Inc., spoke with FOX13 News anchor Darrell Greene on the group's fundraising effort. Swoggers and others are trying to spearhead construction of a Memphis-area long term health care facility for the more than 72,000 Mid-South vets between Shelby, Tipton and Fayette counties.
